As a part-time resident of Florida, guess what? I am now an expert on hurricanes. Charley missed my house by 100 miles, but only at the last hour. Frances knocked down my favorite tree and took out our power for a week. For Ivan, we evacuated to the kinder and gentler (climate of) New York. Jeanne blew through last weekend, and it was luck alone that kept the lights on.
Today is October 1, and the deadline for registering to vote in most states is fast approaching. But the buzz is low on voting. No matter what happens day to day, it’s not pointing to an election we are overtly thrilled to participate in.
