Challenge

WeatherTrends360 came to RLM in advance of the launch of their new weather app. Entering a crowded market, it was crucial to raise brand awareness quickly to drive downloads and also differentiate the Weathertrends360 app from recognized free and paid market leaders.

Strategy and Tactics

With a large number of weather apps and sites flooding the marketplace, RLM knew the key to user download and adoption of the app was to emphasize its greatest asset: weather forecasts up to a year in advance.

RLM identified a wide range of audiences who would benefit from having year-ahead weather on their phone. Technology reporters and Apple bloggers picked up on the story when RLM emphasized having the forecasts on the iPhone and the technology behind the forecasts.

Emphasizing the benefits of year-ahead weather for planning events and travel, RLM also identified key verticals like travel, golfing, outdoor sports and weddings. These stories focused on how consumers can better plan their events and travel with year-ahead forecasts by minimizing the risk of bad weather.

Results

To date, RLM’s coverage has reached 80 million people, resulting in thousands of app downloads and a spot as the second most downloaded paid weather app. Coverage to date includes:
