ChallengeThe Young Turks, the largest online news show in the world, came to RLM in advance of their milestone announcement of 500 million YouTube views. Following a competitive pitch, TYT selected RLM to work with them to spread this exciting news, but before the announcement, Cenk Uygur, TYT’s host, was dropped into a media maelstrom when he left MSNBC.
Cenk had been advised by MSNBC to “tone down” his show, which had garnered exceptional ratings among key demographics. Rather than do so—or accept a lucrative offer of a reduced hosting role on the weekends—Cenk chose to walk away, to maintain his independence in a forum that is not, by definition, Corporate Media.
Cenk made the decision to leave MSNBC on the first day of TYT’s engagement with RLM. RLM immediately sprang into action to make sure that the fact surrounding his departure were clearly and accurately delivered, while also raising the visibility of the TYT brand, and positioning it for ongoing growth.
In only a few brief weeks, RLM secured coverage in every relevant news outlet. Because this story had a decidedly liberal/progressive bias, placing the story in conservative outlets required a deft touch. Coverage to date includes:
